“God was always with me then and gave me light as I walked through the darkness.” (Job 29:3)
Lord, we thank you for your presence among us. This summer, bless our students, staff and community with your light of peace, your touch of rest and relaxation, and your breath of joy. Hold each person in your hand of safety until we gather together again in the fall. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen
Congratulations to the teachers and support staff who are retiring from Holy Trinity Catholic Schools. We thank you for your years of dedicated service in providing a Catholic education to our students. Our prayers are with you as you begin yet another phase in your journey as Holy People doing Holy Work.
The Association Between School-Based Physical Activity, Including Physical Education, and Academic Performance. Centre for Disease Control's Division of Adolescent and School Health released a new report on April 14, 2010 indicating student physical activity may help improve academic performance including academic achievement (e.g., grades, standardized test scores); academic behavior (e.g., on-task behavior, attendance); and factors that can positively influence academic achievement (e.g. concentration, attention, improved classroom behavior). This report is a literature review that examines the existing research on the relationship between school-based physical activity, including physical education, and academic performance. It spans 23 years of research and includes 50 studies. The majority of the studies in this review report that physical activity was positively related to academic performance. Most importantly, adding time during the school day for physical activity does not appear to take away from academic performance. Schools should continue to offer and/or increase opportunities for student physical activity. The report and executive summary are available at http://www.cdc.gov/HealthyYouth/health_and_academics/index.htm
