You are strongly encouraged you to view Dr. Debbie Pushor’s presentation from last night. She shared an inspirational message of commendation to educators and parents alike for their collective efforts since the onset of the pandemic in March. As a former elementary school principal, she highlighted her admiration for the incredibly quick response of teachers and support staff to adapt to the realities of distance education, and the creative responses to meet the needs of students. She was also complimentary of parents’ efforts to support the formal education tasks, but also to immerse children in many informal learning opportunities. When asked by both teachers and parents if we should be worried about a “learning deficit” for students in September, she expressed instead a message of optimism based upon the wonderful collective and collaborative response in our communities.
